My Story
For years I was perplexed by persistent health inequities. Early in my education, I did not understand the underlying mechanisms and systems that were created to disadvantage communities of color. Since learning about systemic and structural barriers to optimal health, I began identifying factors that produced and perpetuated health inequity. Now my current work centers the experiences and narratives of people of color, particularly Black women, to understand how to leverage assets and dismantle systems to address ongoing oppressions that reduce their ability to achieve health.
